Trials of the Monkey Queen is a 3rd Person Action Hack and Slash type game that plays in the ancient and mystical world of the Middle Kingdom.
You play as Sarah Liu, or as she’s more famously known as, Sun Wukong, as she traverses about the middle kingdom, causing problems for absolutely everyone and everything in it.
Specifically, this game encompases the tales that make up the first seven chapters of the great Chinese novel, journey to the West, and focuses entirely upon the birth and early life, up to where she winds up being to be found by Tripitaka 500 years after the events of this game.
The world is also different than what one may expect for this game. As you can likely tell from Wukong’s outfit, she’s from a similarly modern world as our own, and that is the main tell for this. It is a retelling of the great tale with a modern lens over it.
